Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (NSW) and the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2017 (NSW) require employers to ensure, as far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of workers while at work. NSW WHS Regulation (Part 5.5 – Emergency Plans) outlines that employers must have an emergency plan in place, which includes:

• Evacuation procedures.
• Designated emergency assembly points.
• Procedures for accounting for workers and visitors after evacuation.

This means that having clear signage to direct workers and visitors to the emergency assembly point is not only a best practice but is also required to comply with safety regulations.
